Meredyth's Doula Scope of Practice & Agreement

Meredyth has been a doula since 2007. Meredyth came to be a doula through her specialized advanced training in pre- & perinatal therapeutic massage and bodywork. It is always an honor anytime she has been invited to be at a birth! She has been certified through DONA (Doulas of North America) and is a member of the Childbirth Collective. She was a volunteer staff doula at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury until she had to take leave for the needs of her own pregnancy. Meredyth has had the honor to attend a variety of different kinds of births: hospitals, homes, birth centers, VBACs, waterbirths, hypnobirths, 1st time moms, 3rd time moms, medicated, completely natural, and a variety of other special situations. By now, she is very comfortable and confident about birth and believe that empowering birth experiences can happen anywhere and however you define it.  Meredyth is and will continue to always be inspired by all the birth experiences. ...It’s truely amazing.

Current Doula Availability:

I believe strongly in the integrity of the doula role, so even though I love being a birth doula,
I need to be on sabbatical until all three of my girls are in full-day school (Fall of 2019).

Having our children in our upper 30's, we have aging parents and even though I have the most supportive husband in the world, we still do not have as much childcare support/flexibility for me to be gone for an unknown period of time to support your birth. I am happy to send you referrals as I'm still active in the birth world, as a perinatal bodywork therapist, prenatal yoga instructor, and member of the childbirth collective.

def: A doula is experienced in childbirth and provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support before, during and after childbirth. It comes from an old Greek term, meaning "a women who helps other woman".

An aspect of the doula role, is to help "hold space", supporting a sacred, safe, loving environment.

Doulas support birth partners to help laboring mothers with physical, informational, and emotional support, but also hands-on education that cannot be found in any book. The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who helps other women" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during, and just after the birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.
